So why I have I agreed to be interviewed by Andy? What can you learn from the way he helps you understand your journey
What can you learn from the way he helps you understand your journey?
Money & Stories
I see time and time again with clients that the key to unlocking and changing how you are with money is to understand your journey, your story. So when Andy offered to interview me to explore my entrepreneur journey, I knew not only would I benefit from telling it, but I would be able to offer all of you some deeper insights too.
So why does delving into your journey work so well in terms of not only you and your money, but in the wider sense of your life too – business, relationships, personal development?
Why Stories Work?
Sean Buvala, a professional Storyteller since 1986, describes three things that happen to us (yes even as adults!) when we hear or tell a story.
- Emotional connection
- Understanding others
- Growing Intimacy
When we talk about our experiences with money, what we have learned, what we saw as a child, we reconnect back to those emotions at the time. It allows us to see if those emotions from a different perspective, and choose if they are something we still want to carry with us now.
Hero’s & Villians
Money stories are also never something that is told in an isolated way. There are always other characters, the heroes and the villains, and telling our story allows us to understand other people’s behavior more clearly. It allows you to forgive those people if we want and create a money story that is ours going forward.
When you become aware of your story and have the opportunity to tell it in front of a significant other it really helps create an awareness, a bond, an intimacy that wasn’t there before. I coach a lot of couples and understanding (though not trying to change) each others money stories is an important step to creating your own relationship money story.
The power of the story
Understanding your hero’s journey will provide you with clarity and direction as you understand yourself more. It helps make sure what you want to happen, what you want to change. does.
