I’m a little old school and still don’t have a sat nav. Gasp! There is the wiring for it but somehow I keep telling myself I’ve got this…
I prefer to think that I know what I’m doing. That I can follow the signs and for the occasional time I might need it there is always a work around….
That work around normally involves me driving for a good few miles in what I hope is the right direction, typically down a narrow country lane, with the foliage so overgrown, you wouldn’t know if a ten ton truck was heading toward you.
You’ll see me frantically looking for a safe place to pull over whilst simultaneously praying that the phone has some signal. Yep I cave in, I need a little help – google maps!
Now this doesn’t happen once, but twice or on a bad day three times….. And guess what? I’m stressed and late to wherever it is I’m going.
Being lost without a map is like being on holiday and knowing all the things you want to see and do but having no idea how to get there. You keep cobbling things together to hope it will all work out if you turn this corner or that corner, that the answer will be there but it doesn’t quite happen.
And this is how most of us treat our financial life.
We are pretty certain that we should be grown up enough to know this money thing by now – so why would we need a “Sat Nav”. Best off to rely on our intuition alone and hope that we get to the destination.
I’m here to tell you now, that it can work out some of the time, but I promise you, you could get where you want to go a lot faster and smoother if you allowed yourselves some guidance. (Take your own medicine Caroline!)
So how do you get that guidance? Here are my top 5 ways of sorting your financial roadmap, both on a practical and a mindset level. (You got to address both – like a jigsaw puzzle it doesn’t work with just the edges or the middle)
Use your intuition
Your intuition can be useful to get you where you want to go when you deploy it well. We always can create more money flow when we work within our zone of genius – the bit that feels great! When you come across something that works really well for you – do more of it. One the same token if it doesn’t feel right it probably isn’t, so it’s time to turn those indicators on and make a change.
Use the signs
We can get further if we have some pointers along the way. We might not still be able to finally get to our destination but you can add to your knowledge bank. Challenge yourself to do one thing that will change your money mindset each day – here are free resources for you to do just that.
Use the A-Z
The good old fashioned paperback A-Z. Well worn where you have had to look at the little streets so many times, turning it round and round in your hands to try an orientate yourself. Somehow though we still love the feel of a book in our hands – check out my favourite finance books here.
Use the Sat Nav
Love a bit of tech? Check out the sat-nav I have set up for you. Your online roadmap to up-level your income, upgrade your life, and being money confident. Get where you want to go fast.
Have a co-driver
Sometimes it’s just easier to talk it through and have someone else do the thinking with you. Check out how to work personally with me here.
Caroline!
P.s I’m off to order that shiny new Sat Nav!. (Time to use some of savings to spend jar)
