(If you are after April’s special offer (valid for April 2016 too!) then head to the end of this post – if not keep reading!)
If you are anything like me it’s the time of year we start looking at the garden, and despite the lighter evenings and start of the sunnier days we realise how much dead wood there is, weeds growing through cracks, save for the odd beautiful daffodil on the horizon too.
I was looking out into my garden yesterday and thinking about how I could de-clutter, not only my garden, but my finances too, because hey, who doesn’t want more space for beautiful daffodils in their life!
The amazing thing about weeds and dead wood – let’s call it “clutter”, is the negative effect this can have on our mindset and in turn our bank balance. For example…
- Neuro-scientists have found that physical clutter actually competes for your attention resulting in decreased performance and stress. (Anyone fed up of niggling voice in the back of your head reminding you of all the things you should be doing)
- The sheer stress of overloading our minds with clutter means we may miss payment dates, lose important documents, and spending money where it needn’t be, depleting our bank balances.
- Clutter can do strange things to us, not just our bank accounts, like make us put on weight (A dis-organised environment is a good indicator that we are not taking care of ourselves)
Ultimately clutter is costing you money.
The thing with clutter is that it can become overwhelming. Perhaps you have a pile of paperwork that needs something doing to it, but it has got out of control? Or you have no idea what all those direct debits are for anymore? Or there is a big financial task you have been building up to but your just not sure where to start?
How to start
Start small. Baby steps that will start to clear the clutter and let those daffodils peak through. I challenge you to pick one of the de-weeders below for the month April. Choose whichever appeals to you most. Don’t censor your decision. Set a realistic timeline to completing it.
And most importantly before you start think about how this will be of benefit to you when you achieve the challenge.
